The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Reauthorization Act of 2022, which went into effect on October 1, 2022, included a new requirement for HUD grantees and their subrecipients to support an individual’s, including survivor’s, right to seek law enforcement or emergency assistance. Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) recipients will have additional requirements to report non-compliant local laws and ordinances. This webinar provided information to prepare CDBG recipients pending further HUD guidance.

Training Objectives

Participants learned about:

  • VAWA’s new requirements for the “Right to Report Crime and Emergencies from One’s Home” and its applicability for CDBG recipients and subrecipients
  • How housing protections in VAWA address the barriers survivors face to accessing and maintaining housing
  • The discriminatory impact of crime-free programs and nuisance property orders on survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking
  • Which planning and analysis costs associated with implementation may be allowable and unallowable for CDBG
