CDBG-DR/MIT Webinar Series: Sustainable Communities Through Solid Waste Investments/Best Practices

The Office of Block Grant Assistance (OBGA) Disaster Recovery and Special Issues Division (DRSI) hosted a webinar series for Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) and Community Development Block Grant Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) grantees to provide an introduction to each program.

This webinar discussed the eligibility of solid waste projects funded through CDBG-DR or CDBG-MIT. It also reviewed best practices for solid waste management to protect human health and the environment with the goal of making communities economically stronger, sustainable, and resilient. The webinar educated participants on HUD requirements, EPA best practices, effective solid waste management strategies, the importance of properly managing solid waste, opportunities to leverage funds, and common differences between state and local requirements.

This webinar was a part of the CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT Summer 2020 webinar series.

Training Objectives

Participants gained an understanding of:

  • What constitutes solid waste and solid waste management activities
  • Criteria used to determine if a project is eligible under CDBG-DR or CDBG-MIT funds
  • Effective strategies to avoid common mistakes made when implementing a solid waste-related project
