Rent Standard Requirements for the HOPWA Program: Office Hours

HUD's Office of HIV/AIDS Housing (OHH) sponsored office hours to remind Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) grantees about the different options available and requirements for establishing their program's rent standard.

In many HOPWA communities, the HUD-Published Fair Market Rent (FMR) does not afford HOPWA-eligible households with equitable housing options. Notice CPD-22-10: Clarification of Rent Standard Requirement for the HOPWA Program, issued on June 29, 2022, outlined additional options beyond using HUD-Published FMRs and described the requirements associated with establishing HOPWA rent standards.

Additionally, the Notice outlined HUD's expectation that grantees review and update their policies for establishing rent standards to ensure they comply with the guidance described in Notice CPD-22-10 and can support the use of any rent standard above FMR by October 30, 2022.

These office hours included reminders about HOPWA rent standard options outlined in HOPWA Notice CPD-22-10, including policy and procedure requirements for all HOPWA programs, and answered commonly asked questions about HOPWA rent standards.
