Housing Counseling 2021 Conference: Financial Well-being in Housing

This session of the 2021 Office of Housing Counseling (OHC) Community Conference offered housing counseling agencies a preview of consumer-based resources and financial practitioner-based training available. This overview session assisted housing counselors who work with clients everyday who experience housing insecurity, particularly amid COVID-19.

Facilitator:

  • Stephanie Williams, Deputy Director, Office of Outreach and Capacity Building, HUD's Office of Housing Counseling: Stephanie Williams is the Deputy Director of HUD's OHC Office of Outreach and Capacity Building.

Speakers:

  • Chris Bernstein, Acting Staff Director, Products, Distribution, and Strategic Initiatives Team, CFPB: Chris Bernstein serves as the Acting Staff Director of CFPB's Products, Distribution, and Strategic Initiatives Team where housing insecurity due to the COVID-19 pandemic is the number one strategic initiative in 2021. He brings experience advancing behavior change for issues across the federal government to this role, including in food safety, healthcare access, and emergency preparedness. He began his career providing strategic communications support to the Department of Defense, and later led consumer engagement efforts for FEMA's Ready Campaign. Subsequently, Chris promoted healthcare access within HHS's Office of the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, and most recently he served as the manager of the Food Safe Families Campaign at USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
