This session of the Fair Housing 2021: What Counselors Need to Know Conference, reviewed the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) which prohibits credit discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, or because of receiving public assistance. The Fair Housing Act (FHA) prohibits lending discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, and disability.
This session included an overview of the Acts and the fair lending practices that housing counselors need to understand and offered practical examples of how they can best support their clients to avoid discrimination. Note: The Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) also presented.
