2018-2019 ConnectHomeUSA - Digital Inclusion Efforts in Detroit

November 19, 2019 | 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM EST

Currently, Detroit has one of the highest rates of residents who lack high-speed Internet of any city in the nation, with some studies reporting that as many as 40 percent of all Detroiters don't have access at home. To address this issue, Detroit has hired its first ever Director of Digital Inclusion, making it one of a growing number of cities to have a full-time leadership position within its government tackling issues of digital equity.

This webinar featured Detroit's new Digital Inclusion Director, Joshua Edmonds. Edmonds came to his new position from Cleveland, Ohio, where he oversaw deployment of more than $1.5 million in digital-inclusion investments through The Cleveland Foundation, the city's principal community foundation. Edmonds also served at the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, where he worked on the ConnectHomeUSA initiative. In this webinar, Edmonds discussed exciting new digital inclusion initiatives planned in Detroit.

Participants also heard from Seana Page, Director of the ConnectHomeUSA program at the Detroit Housing Commission (DHC). Page shared DHC's efforts to increase digital connectivity for their seniors.
