HMIS Standard Reporting Terminology Glossary

HUD’s Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs (SNAPS), through the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) Data Lab, facilitated a group of HMIS vendors who collaboratively met over a five month period in 2013 to draft this HMIS Standard Reporting Terminology Glossary, henceforth referred to as the Glossary. This remarkable achievement of cooperation allowed vendors to put into words the logic and language required to produce reports required by HUD and the federal partners. The Glossary was created by HMIS vendors for HMIS vendors. This document is not intended to be a guidebook instructing communities as to what they must collect or need to do. Rather, the Glossary is designed to provide HMIS programmers a foundation upon which they can best program HMIS-required reports.

Version 5.1, recently published in January 2017, updates the Glossary in accordance with Revision 5 of the 2014 HMIS Data Standards and reflects minor corrections.
