This report is intended for policymakers, planners, and service providers who seek current homelessness data to help them respond to the needs of the nation's homeless population. It includes an introduction to the AHAR, as well as information on the sources of data on homeless persons, the number and characteristics of sheltered homeless persons, the nation's capacity for housing homeless persons, how homeless persons use emergency shelters and transitional housing, and future steps looking ahead. Appendices include a list of AHAR sample sites and contributing communities and the data collection and analysis methodology.
