HUD's Renew300 helped federally assisted housing save money through the installation of onsite or community-based renewable energy technology. This program was discontinued in 2017; however, affordable housing providers can continue to use its available resources.
The Solar Site Selection Guide describes 12 key technical and economic screening factors for PV development on multifamily buildings. Users can enter this into the Scorecard to determine the solar development potential of a particular building.
Through Renew300, HUD has advanced renewable energy deployment in affordable housing by providing training and technical assistance to 12 affordable housing providers, including the three largest public housing authorities in the U.S. The initiative also created critical online tools for affordable housing, including the Solar Site Selection Guide and the Solar Request for Proposal (RFP) Toolkit for procuring solar PV.
