Guide 8: Resident Management Corporations

Overview

Residents of public housing can choose to form resident management corporations (RMCs) and manage their property. The RMC can take over some or all of the management that is normally done by the housing authority.

Key Points

  • Residents can contract with the housing authority to take on management responsibility
  • The resident council or a majority of residents must support the plan
  • Resident management requires intense training and preparation
