COVID-19 Updates

Many utility companies are easing shutoffs and waiving late fees to aid consumers who are struggling during the coronavirus pandemic. Please check with your local utilities for their COVID-19 policies.

The CARES Act imposed a nationwide temporary federal moratorium on evictions for nonpayment of rent. The CDC administratively extended the order two additional times, first through March 31, 2021, then again through June 30, 2021. As the expiration date of the CDC moratorium nears, it is unclear how rapidly states and localities have been, or will be, able to deploy funds from the CARES Act, the FY 2021 Consolidated Appropriations Act, Emergency Rental Assistance program, and the American Rescue Plan Act to address arrearages and prevent evictions.

The FHFA has extended COVID-19 forbearance to qualifying multifamily property owners through September 30, 2021. This is the third extension of the programs, which were set to expire June 30, 2021.
