Homeless Management Information System
A Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) is a local information technology system used to collect client-level data and data on the provision of housing and services to homeless individuals and families and persons at risk of homelessness. Each Continuum of Care (CoC) is responsible for selecting an HMIS software solution that complies with HUD's data collection, management, and reporting standards.
The SNAPS Data Strategy provides a multi-year vision, as well as specific goals and objectives for HMIS.
CoC Data Maturity Assessment Tool
The Data Maturity Assessment tool is a self-assessment tool that helps communities reflect on local data practices and identify the conditions necessary for effective data-based decision-making. This tool is designed to motivate discussion on the degree to which data is currently being leveraged in your community and to instigate action on areas for improvement.
COVID-19 Resources for Homeless Providers
The recent emergence of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) calls for enhanced cooperation between public health authorities, homeless service systems, and other partners at the local level. Visit the Disease Risks and Homelessness page for the latest SNAPS information and resources.
HMIS Data and Technical Standards Resources
This resource section provides the core materials intended to assist HMIS Lead agencies, Continuum of Care representatives, and HMIS vendors in designing, implementing, and maintaining an HMIS. Federal Partner HMIS Integration Resources
This resource section provides links to a designated page for each of the HUD programs and federal partner programs participating in HMIS (HUD, HHS, and the VA). Each page is intended to provide the full range of materials necessary to guide participation in HMIS, including all of the core materials and the supplemental guidance specific to each federal partner participating in HMIS.
HMIS Information Forums for Leads, Administrators, and Vendors
HMIS Leads and System Administrators can sign up to receive notices to participate in the monthly webinars by selecting "I’d also like to receive updates as an HMIS Lead/System Administrator" on the HUD Exchange Mailing List. Materials from past webinars are available on the HMIS Lead and System Administrator Webinars page.
HMIS Software Vendors have an externally maintained information forum accessible by emailing a request to join the forum. HUD asks that only HMIS Software Providers join the Vendor forum. The forum provides an email listserv, discussion opportunities, and special announcements and meetings tailored specifically for these audiences. Request to join HMIS Software Vendor Forum.
