In this webinar series, Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) and CDBG Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) grantee staff learned how upgrading local building codes to reflect resilient construction strategies can position them to better withstand the threats of natural hazards and severe weather events. Participants learned why resilient building codes matter, how they can build the business case for upgrading their codes, and dive into the various strategies for upgrading codes.
Training Objectives
Participants were able to:
- Develop a common understanding of what building codes are and why they are important
- Gain an understanding of the role that resilient building codes play in climate preparedness and community resilience
- Understand how a non-resilient building stock could negatively impact the local tax base and economy
- Become familiar with the business case for climate resilient building codes
Who Should Attend?
This course was intended for CDBG-DR and CDBG-MIT grantee staff as well as a diverse set of community stakeholders.
