HECM TA and Training Opportunity for HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agencies

May 07, 2019 Print ShareThis

Thanks to a generous grant from the Retirement Research Foundation, Housing Opportunities Provided for the Elderly, Inc. (HOPE) is offering free Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) Technical Assistance (TA) and default training for to up to 10 HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agencies through its Senior Homeownership Preservation Project (SHOPP).

HOPE is a HUD Approved National Intermediary with over 20 years of experience providing HECM counseling to senior homeowners. HOPE’s goal is to help housing counselors learn how to assist senior homeowners at risk and expand the resources available to them at a national level.

Housing Counselors will learn about HECM Property Charge Loss Mitigation (PCLM) counseling and how to design intake protocols and forms. TA can also include “shadowing” counseling sessions with clients and their mortgage servicers, assistance with individual cases, and assistance in developing client forms such as sample hardship letters, reviewing physician letters, designing action plans and budgets.

Agencies may enroll multiple counselors. Participating counselors should anticipate spending 15-20 hours on this project. TA training and services will begin no later than June 03, 2019 and will be available through December 31, 2019.
