Disaster Recovery Toolkit for Housing Counselors Now Available
HUD’s Office of Housing Counseling, in conjunction with the Office of Block Grant Assistance Disaster Recovery and Special Issues Division (DRSI), is excited to announce the launch of the Disaster Recovery Toolkit for Housing Counselors, a new online guide created to help housing counseling-focused organizations prepare for disaster events and engage with local partners that receive funding following disasters. This toolkit is for organizations seeking to play an active and effective role in local disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Other organizations such as CDBG-DR grantees may also find the guide useful, particularly the continuity of operations plan (COOP).
The toolkit features two related guides – one on preparedness and one on recovery.
- Preparing for A Disaster walks through an organizational planning process to effectively prepare a disaster in their community.
- Operating Post Disaster highlights actions that organizations can take to adjust to a post-disaster environment.
Over 15 unique resources are provided in the toolkit to help organizations understand programs and activities they can undertake in support of preparedness and recovery efforts. The guidance in this toolkit was developed by OHC and ICF, a technical assistance provider, with insights and feedback from housing counseling agencies working in disaster impacted areas.
Access the toolkit today to get started on disaster preparation or strengthen your agency’s existing recovery efforts!
