A

When categorizing and reporting on multiple-person unaccompanied youth households where individuals may span HUD’s three specified age ranges, CoCs have a choice.

If they choose to report them as separate households for each individual, each person is reported individually according to their own age.

If they choose to report them as a single household, they should use the oldest person’s age range to determine whether or not to include any household members as unaccompanied youth.

If CoCs choose to report the youth as a single household, they should adhere to the following guidance:

Age of Oldest Household Member

Under 18

18-24

Over 25

Age of Youngest Unaccompanied Youth

Under 18

  1. If all household members are unaccompanied youth under age 18, they should be reported in the “Households with Only Children” category, and all members should be included in the “under age 18” age range in the “Unaccompanied Youth” table.

  2. If all household members are unaccompanied youth under age 24 and at least one is under 18, they should be reported in the “Households with at least One Adult and One Child” category, and each individual should be reported under their own age range in the “Unaccompanied Youth” table.

  3. If all household members are unaccompanied youth aged 18 and 24, they should be reported in the “Households without Children” category, and all members should be included in the “age 18 to 24” age range in the “Unaccompanied Youth” table.

  4. If there is at least one unaccompanied youth household member under age 18 and at least one household member over 25, the household should be reported in the “Households with at Least One Adult and One Child” category, and no one from the household should be included in the “Unaccompanied Youth” table.

  5. If there is at least one unaccompanied youth household member aged 18 to 24 and at least one household member over 25, the household should be reported in the “Households without Children” category, and no one from the household should be included in the “Unaccompanied Youth” table.
