Housing Counseling FAQ
Q

Is there an additional step lenders need to take before accepting a HECM certificate, to verify that a HECM roster counselor is also a HUD certified housing counselor?

A

No additional step is needed. Prior to August 1, 2020, the Final Compliance Date, HUD certification is not required. After August 1, 2020, only HECM counselors currently on the HECM Counselor Roster and who are also HUD certified housing counselors will be able to issue a HECM certificate through FHA Connection.
