Housing Counseling FAQ
Q

My housing counseling agency is offering courses in many subject areas. Does HUD have a requirement for the length, for example, number of hours or days, for each one-on-one counseling session or group workshop?

A

HUD does not approve or disapprove courses offered by housing counseling agencies. The length and time of courses or workshops may be set by each individual housing counseling agency, with the exception of Home Equity Conversion Mortgage (HECM) counseling sessions, which must meet the course and session length requirements of Handbook 4235.1, 7610.1 REV-5, and relevant Notices and Mortgage letters, when applicable.
