Do applicants need to provide original birth certificates or Social Security Cards?

Example: Many residents of nursing homes and institutions don't have access to birth certificates, social security cards, or other standard forms of identification which Housing Finance Agencies (HFAs) may require.

No. As proof of age and/or social security number (SSN), Grantees and Owners may accept other forms of documentation including those listed in Appendix 3 of HUD Handbook 4350.3. In addition, see question #100 of the Final Multifamily Mailbox: 4350.3 REV-1 (August 2007).
